Tuberous Sclerosis

Hannah’s Story

Hannah was diagnosed at six weeks of age with tuberous sclerosis. We were unable to control her seizures after trying numerous medications and the ketogenic diet.

At age 2 1/2 Hannah had a three part surgery and resection. Tubers and abnormal tissue in her right front and temporal lobes were removed. This initially resulted in diminished seizure frequency and severity. Over time however her "typical" seizures returned.

At age 4 1/2 Hannah had a second three part resection. Additional tubers and tissue were removed from her right temporal and parietal lobes.

Hannah has been seizure free since August 12, 2004 (we consider this her new birthday). While Hannah is still severely delayed in her development, we are finally seeing slow but steady progress thanks to the reduction of medication and elimination of seizures. This is nothing short of a miracle.
